Northwestern Memorial Hospital offers one of the nation's premier kidney transplantation programs the the Kovler Organ Transplantation Center. For over 40 years, our physicians and surgeons have set the standard in caring for patients with complex kidney disorders. Of the nearly 250 kidney transplant programs in the United States, Northwestern Memorial ranks in the top five percent of all programs in the number of kidney transplants performed.

A Multidisciplinary Approach

Our physicians have pioneered important medical and surgical interventions for the treatment of patients with chronic renal disease and those with vascular access problems. Interventions include: 

• Laparoscopic kidney donation
• Steroid-free kidney transplant immunosuppression
• New protocols for desensitizing patients
• Integration with the pancreas and islet transplant programs for combined transplants for renal disease and type 1 diabetes patients
