Biography

As an emergency physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Rhaul K. Khare, MD has led an initiative to develop an important clinical care pathway for patients with life-threatening heart attacks, leading to prompt recognition and interventional treatment. This initiative ensures that heart attack patients receive timely care, which has documented positive impacts on heart function and better overall survival of patients with heart attacks.

The success of this program is evident from a recent grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services and a report by the New York Times stating that Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s times are the best in Chicago and better than those reported by the best hospitals in other large cities. From the success of this initiative, Dr. Khare has received the prestigious Clinical Collaboration Excellence Award from Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation.

Dr. Khare also researches time-sensitive, life-threatening diseases in the emergency department, which includes: heart attacks, strokes, and sepsis. Furthermore, he is an interpreter of the medical literature and a public health advocate by doing many media reports (TV, radio, and web-based media) to further educate and communicate health conditions, treatments, prevention, and potential dangers.
