Biography

Starting as faculty in Emergency Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he has co-led an initiative to develop an important clinical care pathway for patients with heart attacks, leading to prompt recognition and interventional treatment. This initiative ensures that heart attack patients receive timely care, which has documented positive impacts on heart function and better overall survival of patients with heart attacks. The success of this new program is evident from recent reports from the US Department of Health and Human Services and the New York Times stating that Northwestern Memorial Hospital times are the best in Chicago and better than those reported in the best hospitals in other large cities. From the success of this initiative, Dr. Khare has recently received the prestigious Clinical Collaboration Excellence Award of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, usually given to long-standing veteran physicians.

After recently co-authoring a handbook of Emergency Medicine and authoring multiple research papers, Dr. Khare was granted a research fellowship funded by the National Institute of Health, which he has completed. His research stems from his desire to transform the experience for ER patients through the development of quality metrics and patient safety.
