Biography
Dr. Flaherty is an assistant professor of medicine in Interventional Cardiology. His clinical interests include coronary and peripheral interventions, interatrial closure devices, cardiac CT angiography and critical care. His research interests include coronary revascularization in patients with heart failure, diabetic patients with coronary artery disease, and growth factor delivery for acute myocardial infarction.
Dr. Flaherty is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology. Prior to joining the faculty in 2006, he completed his residency and fellowship training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He received additional training in left main coronary artery stenting in Seoul, Korea under the direction of Dr. Seung-Jung Park. During his training years, he was recognized several times with the Excellence in Teaching Award. He graduated with honors from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 1999. While there, he was awarded the Robin M. Bannerman Memorial Research Award and was named a Student Scholar in Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke by the American Heart Association.
