Hospital receives 2011 UHC Quality Leadership Award
Northwestern Memorial has been recognized as one of the highest performing academic medical center hospitals in the United States for improving patient care and operational effectiveness through quality and safety by UHC, who recently presented the hospital with the prestigious 2011 UHC Quality Leadership Award.
Ranked No. 3 in the nation, Northwestern Memorial was recognized among 10 academic medical centers that demonstrated excellence in delivering high-quality care as measured by the UHC Quality & Accountability Study. The study, which has been conducted annually since 2005, was designed to help AMCs identify structures and processes associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care activity. The Institute of Medicine’s 6 domains of care – mortality, effectiveness, safety, equity, patient centeredness and efficiency – were used as a guide in structuring the study.
This year, the UHC alliance, which includes membership of 114 academic medical centers and 255 affiliated hospital members, analyzed quality data from 101 members. Northwestern Memorial is the only academic medical center in Illinois to receive the award.
