VIP Treatment

Magnet 2010

VIP Treatment. When Alex Velasquez registers patients for an outpatient procedure on the 8th floor of Galter, some say it is like an old friend welcoming them back. He remembers names and anecdotes from previous visits and puts patients at ease with his signature smile. He makes a point of personalizing the registration process, approaching patients as they sit in the waiting area and personally talking through paperwork and explaining any wait. Patients express their appreciation. “In my opinion,” wrote one patient, “he went out of his way to make one feel good. I might add, it was not just for me. I watched him do this over and over in the three days I was there.”

About Magnet

Only six percent of the nation’s hospitals have earned Magnet status, the gold standard for nursing excellence and quality care. Research shows Magnet hospitals report fewer patient falls, less medication error, lower mortality and higher patient and family satisfaction. Magnet hospitals tend to have lower nursing turnover and improved nurse work environment. Northwestern Memorial Hospital was awarded Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2006.
