Biographical Sketch:

Julie is an advanced practice nurse for the cardiology/heart failure team at the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Following graduation from the University of Iowa, Julie took a position in the surgical intensive care unit working with patients immediately following cardiac surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. After working with this patient population for three years, Julie left Iowa and moved to Chicago where she began working at Northwestern Memorial hospital in the cardiac catheterization lab for four years and the cardiac surgery intensive care unit for one year before transitioned to the advanced practice nurse role.

Currently as an advanced practice nurse working on Galter 10 heart failure/cardiology inpatient and observation unit Julie works with a variety of cardiac patients. The patient population on Galter 10 includes general cardiology patient, newly diagnosed as well as advanced heart failure patients, heart transplant patients, and a cardiology observation unit for patients with low risk chest pain. Julie works very closely with the nurses and cardiologist to help form a plan of care for these patients and then carry out the plan. She works closely with the patients offering education and guidance with their care and interacts with the out-patient clinic to set up appointments following hospitalization. Julie is involved with all aspects of care for these patients and works with a wonderful group of nurses, pharmacists, social workers, care managers, dieticians, and physicians to offer the best care possible.

Julie is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing, and the American Heart Association. She is a certified acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP-BC) and a registered nurse since 2004.
