Sara's nursing career started at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in 1989 where she started as a registered nurse on a general medicine floor. She was there for three years and then transferred to the Coronary Care Unit/Medical Intensive Care Unit for seven years. During this time, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Rush University School of Nursing, her Master of Science in Nursing also at Rush University School of Nursing, and finally her Post-Master's Certificate as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at University of Illinois.
Sara's first position as a nurse practitioner was at Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she managed acute care geriatric patients for one year. Sara then took a position with Advocate Health Centers to assist in starting an outpatient heart failure clinic. Sara was instrumental in getting this clinic up and running. She continued to manage patients there for seven years.
Currently, Sara is a nurse practitioner with the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Center for Heart Failure in the Heart Transplant Program. She works with the interdisciplinary team to deliver complex care to individuals with advanced heart failure. She has been with the Heart Failure/Heart Transplant team since 2006. Sara is a member of the Heart Failure Society of America.
