Launched in April 2004, the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute is one of the most promising initiatives at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, and its distinguished team of renowned heart and vascular specialists, is organized around six centers providing superior treatment for atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart valve disease, vascular disease and women's cardiovascular health.
Since its inception, the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute has applied a patient-centered approach to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. This approach focuses on providing the best progressive clinical and surgical care, conducting innovative research to understand the complex problems of cardiovascular disease and making educational opportunities available for healthcare professionals and the general public. The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute offers diagnostics and treatment in all areas of cardiovascular care including cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular medicine and surgery, cardiovascular anesthesiology, cardiac behavioral medicine and radiology.
In 2009, U.S. News & World Report ranked Northwestern Memorial’s heart and heart surgery program 22nd in the nation and the top program in Illinois.
