Level 1 Trauma & Stroke Center

The emergency department is certified as a Level 1 trauma center and stroke center. Northwestern Memorial also offers high-quality specialty emergency and trauma services.

Having a Level 1 designation means that the emergency department at Northwestern Memorial has demonstrated that it has trained and capable personnel available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for diagnosing and treating the most critically injured patients with life-threatening injuries. As a Level 1 facility, we are capable of providing total care for every aspect of injury, from injury prevention to intensive care to rehabilitation.
