Maggie Daley Center for Women's Cancer Care
There's no sugar coating it - a cancer diagnosis and treatment is not something anyone wants to deal with. At Northwestern Memorial Hospital, we understand how disruptive cancer care is to every day life, so we've created a program that gives women one place for everything she needs while being treated for breast and gynecologic cancer.
At the Maggie Daley Center for Women's Cancer Care, officially opened on April 19, 2010, we focus on each and every patient as an individual, and we work with the women who entrust their care to us to help them find the best, least stressful ways to manage their treatment. And in an effort to make care logistically easier, we've built an entire center under one roof.
Integrative, Holistic Care in One Location
The Maggie Daley Center is the premier women’s cancer program of its kind. The center is part of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.
The usual standard in cancer care presents difficulties, such as knowing where to go and who to see for the different aspects of care and getting around from place to place. Cancer treatment is stressful, and when women feel they have to go to one place for chemotherapy, another place for counseling, and another place to consult with someone about nutrition, it can make an already tough situation even more difficult.
We created the Maggie Daley Center as a solution to that problem. We know we can't make cancer treatment a pleasant experience overall, but we know that we can make it easier. And that's what we plan to do. The center, located on the 4th and 5th floors of Prentice Women's Hospital, offers women an integrative, holistic approach to cancer care that addresses all of their needs during treatment - physical, emotional, spiritual and cosmetic.
Helping Our Patients Fight Cancer - Body, Mind & Spirit
We have created this program to be customized to each individual woman. As we work to advance the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, survivorship and cure of women’s cancers, we provide care that recognizes and appreciates the effects of women’s cancers on every individual as well as on the members of her family.
In order to help our patients and their families cope with the stresses of cancer treatment, we staff social workers, psychologists and integrative medicine practitioners. In addition, we offer therapies and services such as:
- Massage
- Acupuncture
- Nutritional guidance and counseling
- Counseling services
- Rehabilitation services to maximize strength and endurance (coming soon)
- “Look Good, Feel Better” classes, where women learn beauty techniques to help combat appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment
- A "healing boutique" that offers consultation and referrals for wigs and prostheses (by appointment, please call 312-472-3837)
- Skincare consultations (coming soon)
- Genetic screening and counseling
- Conference and meeting rooms
- A shared journal in which women can write about their experiences or read inspirational stories about other women
