Since completing her nursing education in 1988, PJ has worked extensively in the medical management and perioperative care of patients with heart disease. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in 1997, she focused on advanced heart disease while working as an Organ Procurement Coordinator for Lifebanc, the transplant organ procurement organization (OPO) serving northeast Ohio.
In 1998, PJ joined the Cleveland Clinic Foundation heart transplant team working initially as a pre-transplant coordinator. Moving to the post-heart transplant arena in 2002, PJ managed the post-transplant office consisting of 5 coordinators who teamed with 10 heart failure cardiologists to manage more than 1200 patients. In 2004 PJ became a Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC).
Relocating to Massachusetts from 2006 to 2009, PJ worked for Thoratec Corporation as a clinical consultant facilitating ventricular assist device (VAD) programs at medical centers throughout New England and eastern Canada.
PJ joined the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute’s Center for Heart Failure in December of 2009, specifically working in the Heart Transplant program. PJ is a member of the International Transplant Nursing Society (ITNS), having served as President of its Buckeye Ohio Chapter in 2003. She has also served on the ITNS Board as director of marketing.
