Treatments
Treatment of gait disorders focuses first on identifying any treatable causes of the problem.
Treatment includes a multidisciplinary approach:
- Physical Therapy is used to improve balance, strength and flexibility
- Occupational Therapy provides strategies to assist with eating, dressing and self care
- Education and instruction are provided in fall prevention
At Northwestern Memorial, we develop a treatment plan by working with the Geriatric Evaluation Service as well as world-renowned gait and balance clinicians at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and the Northwestern Department of Human Movement Sciences.
