Chicago -

On Saturday, June 9, at 6 a.m., Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago will open at 225 E. Chicago Ave. with the transport of all patients from Children’s Memorial Hospital in Lincoln Park.

The move will involve 20 to 25 ambulances each transporting one child at a time to the hospital’s new location just west of Prentice Women’s Hospital. The move of up to 200 children is expected to take 10 to 18 hours.

While there will be no street closures, parking will be prohibited on Chicago Avenue from Lurie Children’s to Lake Shore Drive and we anticipate some congestion due to ambulance traffic and families that will come to campus as their children are moved to the new hospital.

If you need to come to the downtown medical campus on June 9, please be aware that you may experience traffic delays. Northwestern Memorial Hospital, including Prentice, will be fully operational during the move. The Prentice drive-through and valet parking will continue to be available, as will the patient and visitor parking garage at 222 E. Huron St.

Please see the map below for the separate routes that ambulances and families will take to Lurie Children’s.
