Patient Stories
Sally Richards' Story
Sally was only 15 when she was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis 2, otherwise known as NF2. For the past 25 years, she has undergone multiple surgeries to remove tumors growing on her brain and spinal cord. In 2009, Sally had her first surgery at Northwestern Memorial, and she'd like to share her experience and talk a little about her surgeons, Andrew Fishman, MD and Bernard Bendok, MD.
Fred Critch's Story
When Fred found himself nearly unable to get through his days without pain and unusual symptoms, he knew something was wrong. He sought help with his primary care physician, Jason Primer, MD, an internist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, who performed an MRI. The results showed that Fred had a pituitary tumor that required surgery. James Chandler, MD performed the surgery, and Fred went home the next day. His recovery went splendidly, and within weeks after surgery, Fred finished the Ironman Triathlon just 75 days after surgery, and shortly after he finished his fastest marathon.
