Northwestern Memorial Hospital Opens Transplant Clinic in Portage, Indiana
Clinic offers kidney and liver services to patients in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio
Northwestern Memorial Hospital transplant physicians have opened a clinic in Portage, Indiana in response to the growing need to expand access to transplantation services in neighboring states. The Northwestern Organ Transplant Clinic will serve potential transplant candidates as well as those seeking consultations for advanced or complex liver disease, and will minimize the need for patients to make frequent long drives to downtown Chicago for care.
“The arrival of this clinic provides patients from the region with more convenient access to the option of liver and kidney transplantation.” says Michael Abecassis, MD, MBA, Chief of the Division of Organ Transplantation at Northwestern Memorial. “As part of our outreach efforts, we look forward to working with local physicians to coordinate care and make treatment for their patients closer and more convenient.”
The clinic is now open and is located at 3691 Willowcreek Road, Suite 100, Portage, Indiana, 46368. The clinic is located in the Lake Shore Bone & Joint Institute, across the street from Porter Hospital. The multi-disciplinary transplant team that will see patients in the clinic includes Steven Flamm, MD, hepatologist, John Friedewald, MD, nephrologist, along with transplant surgeons.
The liver disease and transplantation program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital offers a complete range of medical and surgical interventions to treat complex liver disease. The kidney transplant program offers a variety of innovative treatments to offer the option of kidney transplantation to more patients. Of the more than 370 liver and kidney transplant programs in the United States, Northwestern Memorial ranks in the top ten percent of all programs in the number of transplants performed.
