Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and Northwestern Memorial Foundation Elect New Board of Directors and Officers

 Thomas A. Cole named incoming Chairman of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare; W. James McNerney joins Board of Directors; Robert Parkinson, Jr., becomes Chairman of Northwestern Memorial Foundation

Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, corporate parent of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, elected at its recent board meeting several new members of its Boards of Directors.

Thomas A. Cole, Chair of the Executive Committee of Sidley Austin, LLP, has been named as the incoming Chairman of the Board of Directors.  Cole has served as a member of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare’s and Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s boards of directors since 1993 and 2000 respectively.  He also has chaired the hospital’s Professional Standards Committee, which provides oversight for the hospital’s quality and patient safety programs.  Northwestern Memorial Healthcare’s current chairman Edward Liddy steps down in January 2008.  Liddy is chairman of Allstate until his scheduled retirement in the spring of 2008.

W. James McNerney has been appointed to the Board of Directors.  McNerney is chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of the Boeing Company, overseeing the strategic direction of the Chicago-based $61.5 billion aerospace company.  Prior to Boeing, McNerney was chairman of the board and chief executive officer of 3M where he began work in 2001 after completing 19 years of service at the General Electric Company.

Robert L. Parkinson, Jr., has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors.  Parkinson is chairman, chief executive officer and president of Baxter International.  He assumes this new leadership role after serving on the foundation’s board for the past three years.  He has been on Northwestern Memorial Healthcare’s board since 1995, most recently as chair of the Research and Education Committee. He succeeds James Denny, chairman of Gilead Sciences, Inc., and retired vice chairman and chief financial officer of Sears, Roebuck & Co.  Denny had been chair of the Northwestern Memorial Foundation since 2000.  He has been an active member and a chairman of the Northwestern Memorial HealthCare board of directors and numerous committees since 1989 and remains a member at-large.
