Northwestern Memorial Set to Open New Prentice Women's Hospital October 20
The new hospital engages all facets of healthcare tailored to a woman’s unique needs
Years of planning and preparation will culminate on Oct. 20 when the first patients are welcomed into Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s new Prentice Women’s Hospital. It was not long after opening the new Feinberg and Galter pavilions that Northwestern Memorial announced plans to construct the new technologically advanced Prentice Women’s Hospital and expand its women’s health programming to better serve the unique healthcare needs of women.
“The new Prentice Womens Hospital will continue the longstanding tradition of providing exceptional care that women in our region have come to expect,” said Dean M. Harrison, president and chief executive officer of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. “We believe this new state-of-the-art facility along with its associated health programs will provide women with a new level of care throughout all stages of their lives.”
The overall design for the new Prentice Women’s Hospital responds directly to what women told us was important to them with regard to services and amenities. Hundreds of focus groups with patients, caregivers, physicians and employees were conducted to ensure we created the best environment for exceptional care, diagnostics, service and learning. The 17-story hospital spans nearly a million square feet and will consist of 328 licensed inpatient beds. All patient rooms are private and feature amenities for convenience, comfort, health and healing. There will be 24-hour room service available, Internet access with bedside controls, on-site restaurant style eateries, retail and more.
Bricks and mortar aside, the new hospital will continue to deliver the very best in patient care and advanced clinical approaches in obstetrics and high-risk pregnancies, gynecology, breast cancer and gynecologic oncology and women’s cardiovascular health. Prentice remains the only hospital in Illinois with a National Institutes of Health Perinatal Research Center. In addition, the nationally recognized Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center, which is the largest in the state, will relocate to the new Prentice.
