Nursing Shared Leadership Meeting

Northwestern Memorial aspires to identify and develop transformational leaders who can positively impact the nursing profession at and beyond our organization. Collaboration between senior level executives, directors, managers, and staff nurses is a vital component of our organizational decision-making process and is consistent with our Framework for Nursing Practice. Participation in organizational decision-making groups by nurses from all settings and roles is both encouraged and expected as part of the role of the Northwestern Memorial nurse.

Our Leadership Team

Our nursing leadership team is comprised of highly qualified leaders with diverse backgrounds and skill sets, from health care administration and masters in nursing to public policy and process improvement. Our nursing leaders are recognized as leaders in their profession, with numerous publications and presentation both locally, nationally and internationally.

Shared Leadership

Our nursing shared leadership structures and processes provide nurses in direct care positions with opportunities for involvement in decision-making that affects their daily practice. Committees have been established at the hospital-wide, departmental and unit levels in order to facilitate both horizontal and vertical communication across the Division of Nursing.

All major nursing departments are represented on the hospital-wide Shared Leadership Committees (pdf). The work of the committees is coordinated through the Chief Nurse Executive Coordinating Council.
