Why Early Detection and Prevention is Important

In most cases, doctors can diagnose ovarian cancer within three months of the onset of symptoms, and if ovarian cancer is caught early, before the cancer has spread, the survival rate is about 93 percent, but the 5-year survival rate for women who have later stage cancer drops dramatically. This is why it’s so important for women to listen to their bodies and report any of the above symptoms to their physicians.

The Northwestern Ovarian Cancer Early Detection and Prevention Program (NOCEDPP)

NOCEDPP is directed by Lee P. Shulman, MD and Diljeet K. Singh, MD, DrPH, works to identify women who are at increased risk for ovarian cancer and focuses on cancer prevention, research and the development of new tests to help detect ovarian cancer at an early, treatable stage.
