Dr. Adams is Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Adams was previously on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, as Assistant Professor. He was Vice Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 1995-2000. He was a founding faculty member of the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency. He was honored by the Harvard emergency medicine residents as Best Role Model (1996-97, 1997-98), Best Clinician (1997-1998), and Outstanding Attending (1998-99, 1999-2000). A perpetuating leadership award was dedicated in his name upon his departure of Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

From 1991-1995, Dr. Adams served at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, where he was Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine and a Major in the USAF. The department was twice named “Department of the Year” for high quality performance as a worldwide referral center, a trauma center for the 29 counties of South Texas, and a high volume department serving active duty and retired military members along with their dependents.

Dr. Adams has numerous scientific publications, has lectured widely at dozens of universities, academic conferences, and scientific meetings throughout the world. His primary interest is organizational performance and ethics. He has received over $1.5 million dollars in funding for research and development for these activities.

He serves on the board of directors of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, is the Senior Associate Editor of the journal Academic Emergency Medicine. He is an editor of the textbook, Rosen’s Principles and Practice of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Adams also serves on medical advisory boards of numerous corporations, from start-ups to established companies. His professional goal is to enhance quality, safety, efficiency, and satisfaction in health care operations.
