Biography
Dr. Akhter is a member of Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Division of Cardiology and a member of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. Her special interests include general cardiology, echocardiography, valvular heart disease, and cardiovascular disease in women.
Dr. Akhter is an instructor of medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. She attended medical school at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency at Indiana University and her fellowship at University of Illinois at Chicago.
Subsequently, she received level-III training in echocardiography at Northwestern University. She is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular computer tomography. She is an active member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the American Society of Echocardiography.
