Allen S. Anderson, MD is a cardiologist and the medical director of the Center for Heart Failure at Northwestern's Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute overseeing the areas of advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.  He is also the director of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Anderson was the founding medical director of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at the University of Chicago, leading that program for 15 years.  His research interests include the non-invasive assessment of heart failure and cardiac transplant patients, multi-organ transplantation, and the use of mechanical circulatory support in advanced heart failure.

Dr. Anderson, a Georgia native, received a BS in Chemistry, summa cum laude from Mercer University and an MD from Emory University.  He completed internal medicine training at New York University and Bellevue Hospitals where he also served as the senior chief medical resident.  He was a cardiology fellow at the University of Chicago, where he received the Resnekov Award for excellence in clinical cardiology.   His heart failure and transplant training was completed as a fellow in the Division of Circulatory Physiology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center with Drs. Milton Packer and Donna Mancini.

Dr. Anderson is a member of the Heart Failure Society, the International Society of Heart & Lung Transplantation, and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.  He is an active clinical educator who received numerous awards while at University of Chicago including the Childers Fellow Teaching award in 2002 and 2007 and the Bucksbaum Institute Senior Faculty Scholar in 2012.

In addition to his administrative and education roles, Dr. Anderson will maintain an active clinical practice in cardiomyopathies, advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation.

Dr. Anderson, his wife Priscilla, and their daughter Sawyer live in the Gold Coast.  His hobbies include travel, cooking, golf, and occasionally karaoke.
