Biography

David Bentrem, MD, MS- Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery- Dr. Bentrem is the Director of the GI Oncology Lab in the Department of Surgery and the Method Professor of Surgical Research.

Dr. Bentrem completed his undergraduate and medical school at the University of Virginia. He completed his residency and a research fellowship in Cancer Biology at Northwestern University and his fellowship training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Bentrem has authored or co-authored over 100 peer reviewed research articles related to cancer. He has a focused interest in the development of quality measures in cancer surgery and translational initiatives in GI oncology. This work is funded by the American Cancer Society and the Health Services Research Division of the Veterans Administration. He is also co-principal investigator on a priority initiative to develop a Northwestern Center for Cancer Quality. He also collaborates with the American College of Surgeons Division of Optimal Patient Care to develop a risk calculator for elderly patients undergoing major operation and is on the senior staff of the Center for the Management of Complex Chronic Care, Hines VAMC.
