Biography
Dr. Cotts is the medical director of the Advanced Heart Failure Program in the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and an associate professor at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine.
An active researcher, Dr. Cotts is involved in a variety of clinical trials and grant programs. He is the recipient of six grants for multicenter trials in medications for heart failure, valvular disease, and other cardiac diseases. His research initiatives include studies of anemia, exercise, sleep apnea, and natriuretic peptides in the management and treatment of heart failure. He is a reviewer for five leading medical journals and has published a wide range of academic papers in cardiology.
Dr. Cotts has experience with ventricular assist devices, vasodilators, inotropes, right heart catheterization, and heart transplantation. He completed additional training as a heart failure/transplant fellow at the University of Iowa.
Dr. Cotts attended medical school at Loyola University. He conducted his internship, residency, and fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine and is a member of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. He also is fluent in German.
