Dr. Devries is a cardiologist on staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and an associate professor in the division of cardiology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Devries is recognized for his work in prevention of heart disease emphasizing natural treatment options, as well as for evaluation of individuals at risk for heart disease based on family history of heart disease or known cholesterol problems. He is also a specialist in non-invasive heart testing with echocardiography. Dr. Devries has been in practice for 20 years. He ran a large heart disease prevention program at the University of Illinois before coming to Northwestern in August 2007.

Dr. Devries has unique training in both cardiovascular disease and in integrative medicine. He attended medical school and completed his internal medicine training at the University of Michigan. He then completed cardiovascular subspecialty training at Washington University. In 2005, he completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona with Dr. Andrew Weil.

Dr. Devries is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, and clinical lipidology.

Dr. Devries previously authored the weekly column ""Heart Beat"" in the Chicago Sun-Times, and lectures nationally on prevention of heart disease. He has been elected by his peers as one of the ""Best Doctors in America"". Most recently, he authored a book published in 2007 by Time/Warner, ""What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Cholesterol"".

Dr. Devries has a unique preventive cardiology practice integrating natural and conventional approaches. The focus of his practice is on the evaluation of patients with a strong family history of heart disease, those with cholesterol disorders, and patients who have been intolerant to cholesterol medication in the past. The emphasis is on maximizing non-drug options, although medication is used as required. His practice is limited to issues relating to the prevention of heart disease.
