Biography
Leonard Ilkhanoff, MD is a cardiac electrophysiologist and assistant professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He serves as the director of the Inherited Arrhythmia Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is a member of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation.
Dr. Ilkhanoff graduated from Harvard College and received his medical degree with distinction from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, where he was elected a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and earned Departmental Honors. He was trained in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston from 2000-2003, where he was selected by his peers as an outstanding and dedicated teacher. He went on to complete specialty training in cardiology and subspecialty training in cardiac electrophysiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. There, he trained in complex procedures including ablation for ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, PVCs, supraventricular tachycardia, in addition to implantation of medical devices, such as pacemakers and defibrillators for patients with heart failure. While at the University of Pennsylvania, he was awarded the Cardiovascular Medicine Division's Outstanding Fellow Research Award in addition to other awards.
Dr. Ilkhanoff's research interest focuses on underlying risks, including genomic factors, contributing to conduction system abnormalities and arrhythmia susceptibility, especially atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. He is involved in a number of large research studies in this area and has presented his research findings at national meetings of the Heart Rhythm Society, American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association. Dr. Ilkhanoff is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
