Biography
Lee M. Jampol, MD was born in Flushing, New York. He attended Yale College, Yale University School of Medicine and did his ophthalmology training at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine from 1983-2010. He is presently the Louis Feinberg Professor of Ophthalmology. Dr. Jampol's clinical practice and research have been largely in diseases of the retina and age-related macula degeneration. Dr. Jampol has played a major role in supervising clinical trials, particularly in the area of age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Jampol was a Trustee and Vice-President of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and is a past president of the Macula Society and the Chicago Ophthalmological Society. He was on the Heed Board of Directors and was president of the Board of Directors .At present he is the President of the American Ophthalmological Society, an organization founded in 1864.
