Biography
Susan S. Kim, MD is a cardiac electrophysiologist and an assistant professor of medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She also serves as director of the Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Clinic at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kim is a member of the Northwestern Medial Faculty Foundation.
Dr. Kim earned her bachelor's degree at Williams College in Massachusetts, majoring in Mathematics. She spent the next two years as a junior high school math teacher in Los Angeles through the Teach For American program. She then went on to earn her medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine internship and residency at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and returned to the University of Chicago Medical Center to complete fellowships in both cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology. Upon completing fellowship, Dr. Kim joined the University of Chicago Medical Center faculty in 2006 in cardiac electrophysiology where she served as the assistant program director of Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowships. On November 15, 2009 she moved to Northwestern University to join the cardiac electrophysiology group.
Dr. Kim is considered an expert in the management of patients with heart rhythm disorders. Her clinical interests remain broad and include management of all types of heart rhythm disorders, and implantation of cardiac rhythm management devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators. Her research interests include atrial fibrillation especially regarding use of intracardiac imaging techniques during catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation. She also has research interest in infection related to cardiac implantable electronic devices. She has been an investigator for multicenter clinical trials and has published several peer-reviewed manuscripts, reviews, case reports, and editorials.
She is an active member of the Heart Rhythm Society, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the American Medical Association.
