Biography

Gail Osterman, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of Surgery in the Cardiac Behavioral Medicine Service of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and assistant professor of Psychiatry at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. She is a licensed clinical psychologist with specialization in health psychology, with an emphasis in cardiac psychology. Her clinical interests include the interplay of social support and health status, varying informational needs throughout medical care, and enhancing the quality of life and adjustment of cardiac and transplant populations.

Dr. Osterman utilizes cognitive behavioral techniques to enhance adjustment to medical illness, encourage long-term behavioral change, as well as improve quality of life among medical populations. She has been involved in a National Institutes of Health-sponsored research project that examined the role of social support on maintenance of behavioral change in a cardiac population.
