Dr. Peabody is the Edwin Warner Ryerson Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He also provides care for patients at Children’s Memorial Hospital and is a member of the Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center.

Dr. Peabody has served as Chair of the American Orthopaedic Association’s Academic Leadership Committee. He has also served on the Audit Committee, Critical Issues Committee, Finance Committee and the Distinguished Contributions to Orthopaedics Awards Committee. Among other professional societies, Dr. Peabody belongs to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the North American Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, where he has served as President. He is currently the President Elect of the American Orthopaedic Association. In addition, he is a member of the Residency Review Committee for Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Peabody previously served on the faculty of the University of California at Irvine from 1991 to 1993 and the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine from 1994 to 2011, most recently as the Simon and Kalt Families Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chief of the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine. He also held secondary appointments as Professor of Surgery in the University of Chicago Cancer Center and Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He earned his doctor of medicine degree and completed his residency and internship training at the University of California-Irvine, and completed his fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Dr. Peabody received his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of California-Irvine, where he also received his medical degree, completed an internship and his residency.

Dr. Peabody’s research and clinical expertise focus on the treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft-tissue tumors including limb salvage surgery and functional restoration for adult and pediatric patients. A well-published investigator, Dr. Peabody has authored multiple journal articles and book chapters and served on the editorial board of several publications. Other than musculoskeletal oncology, his professional interests include challenges related to resident and fellow education.
