Biography

Dr. Cherise Russo is a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician at Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Primary Care Sports Medicine. She obtained her medical degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her Family Medicine Residency at Resurrection Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She conducted her Sports Medicine Fellowship training in at Harbor UCLA. Dr. Russo returned to Chicago in 2007 to become director of the Resurrection Sports Medicine Fellowship and served as faculty for the Family Medicine Residency. During that time, she also served as the medical director for the athletic training program a North Park University.

After two years as a fellowship director, Dr. Russo joined Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute, where she continues to be involved with education and teaching. Dr. Russo is a clinical instructor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and also teaches Northwestern Emergency Medicine residents. She also teaches Family Medicine residents from the University of Chicago Glenbrook Family Medicine Residency.

Dr. Russo is currently one of the lead physicians for the Bank of American Chicago Marathon. She is also the head team physician for Loyola Academy and volunteers at New Trier High School. In 2007 and 2008, she was the medical director for the Journal of Men's Health Urbanathlon and the MS Bike 150. While in California, she was co-medical director for the LA Triathlon and served as one of the team physicians for the Los Angeles Rugby Club. She was also a volunteer physician for the NCAA Division II Men's Far West Regional Soccer Tournament.

Dr. Russo has presented at the 54th and 56th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine and she presented updates on concussion at the 2009 Annual Symposium for the Academy of Sports Dentistry. She continues to conduct research in sports medicine and is involved with the community. Dr. Russo specializes in the comprehensive care of the whole athlete and has a special focus on women's sports medicine and osteopathic treatments.
