Biography
Dr. Richard L. Wixson is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, concentrating in total hip and knee reconstruction and replacement. He is a Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and serves as the Chairman of the Resident Research Committee within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and as the Director of the Journal Club for the Department.
Dr. Wixson is proud to have served on the Health Policy Committee of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and is currently on the Board of Directors of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Among his many honors he has been named to Chicago Magazine's annual list of Top Doctors.
Dr. Wixson received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin, and completed his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where he was Chief Resident in Orthopaedics. Subsequently he completed fellowships in Hip and Knee reconstruction at Massachusetts General Hospital and New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.
He has been a member of the American Medical Association, the Chicago Medical Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Illinois Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Wixson has done extensive research in the subject of bone cement and joint fixation. He has been published in the Journal of Arthroplasty, the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and the Journal of Biomechanics.
