Inpatient surgical care: timely antibiotic before hip replacement surgery (IHA)
Antibiotics are medicines that can kill bacteria that cause infections. Infections are a possible complication of any surgical procedure. When patients receive antibiotics within one hour before surgery, their risk for wound infection is reduced.
About This Measure
This measure tracks the percentage of patients having hip replacement surgery who receive antibiotics at the right time, within one hour before surgery.
Note: Comparison data is not available for this measure. You can view results of other individual hospitals at www.illinoishospitals.org/iha/home.
In this case, a higher number is better.
