“Bed sores are breakdowns in the skin caused by pressure that can result in infection, pain, and disability. Patients should choose a hospital that has a small number of patients that develop bed sores (pressure ulcers) during their hospital stay.”
About this measure
The Leapfrog Group scores reduction in pressure ulcers based on the rate of this complication per 1000 patient days. Scores are reported as:
1 = Willing to Report
2 = Some Progress
3 = Substantial Progress
4 = Fully Meets Standards
Note: In this measure, a higher number is better.
