“Select a hospital with lots of experience and the best results for specific procedures, surgeries or conditions. This is known as Evidence Based Hospital Referral (High risk procedures). This measure evaluates practices at the hospital for care of mothers and infants in a normal delivery. Evidence-based hospital referral means making sure that patients with high-risk conditions are treated at hospitals with characteristics shown to be associated with  better outcomes.”

About this measure

The Leapfrog Group scores Normal Delivery care by evaluating rate of babies born before full-term, infant screening for jaundice, and preventing blood clots in mothers. Scores are reported as:

1 = Willing to Report
2 = Some Progress
3 = Substantial Progress
4 = Fully Meets Standards

Note: In this measure, a higher number is better.
