Prevent medication errors (Leapfrog Group)
The descriptions for this measure come from source: www.leapfroggroup.org.
“Patients should choose a hospital that uses computerized prescriber order entry (CPOE) systems to order medications, tests and procedures. CPOE systems are computer systems designed to alert doctors and other prescribers to potentially serious problems with their instructions.”
About this measure
“In order to fully meet Leapfrog’s CPOE Standard, hospitals must: 1. Assure that physicians enter at least 75% of medication orders via a computer system that includes prescribing-error prevention software; and 2. Demonstrate that their inpatient CPOE system can alert physicians to at least 50% of common, serious prescribing errors, using Leapfrog’s CPOE Evaluation Tool.” Scores are reported as:
1 = Willing to Report
2 = Some Progress
3 = Substantial Progress
4 = Fully Meets Standards
Note: In this measure, a higher number is better.
