Friends of Prentice still has spots for sold-out 2010 Chicago Marathon

Friends of Prentice, a philanthropic organization of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, invites fathers and husbands, mothers and daughters, to honor a woman they love this Mother’s Day by registering to “Run for Prentice” at the upcoming Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Revenue raised by the organization, a first year Participating Charity of the Chicago Marathon, will support critical initiatives at Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago.

“We are thrilled to be part of the 2010 Bank of America Chicago Marathon as the first and only Northwestern Memorial Hospital philanthropic organization participating in the race,” said Trina Gordon McCallister, Friends of Prentice board president. “Whether you’re racing yourself or serving as a sponsor, supporting Run for Prentice offers an incredible way to help women at all stages of life in our local community of Chicago.”

To register for the now sold-out October 10, 2010 race and join the Run for Prentice team, runners are asked to raise $950 in addition to the marathon entry fee. Participants already registered for the race but looking for a rewarding cause to support can still sign up to Run for Prentice and agree to raise a minimum of $500 or $1,000. Non-running supporters also can further the mission of Friends of Prentice by making a direct contribution on the organization’s Web site.

In appreciation of their generous pledges, members of Run for Prentice will receive fully-guided fundraising support, training information and gear, race-day amenities and more.

Money raised through the race will go towards clinical, research and education initiatives that support women's health at all stages of life. Additionally, funding will support Friends of Prentice initiatives, which include Northwestern Memorial's Gynecologic Oncology research programs, robotic surgery training at Northwestern and Urogynecolgy at Northwestern.

“As a physician at Prentice, every day I see firsthand how the research funded by our local community is making a difference in women’s lives,” said Dr. Julie Levitt, OB/GYN at the Women’s Group of Northwestern. “I’m thrilled to be running in the marathon, and I’ve been encouraging my patients to join the Run for Prentice team too. I even had one patient wake up from an emergency C-section delivery and immediately ask, ‘Am I still going to be able to run the marathon this fall?’”
