The Northwestern Scleroderma Program is led by three rheumatologists who bring a wealth of expertise in the evaluation and treatment of patients who have scleroderma:

Associated Specialists

Specialists from many disciplines work together to ensure that patients receive comprehensive evaluation and management of scleroderma. Close collaboration among these specialists helps ensure coordination of care and integration of research. 

Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine

With a special interest in interstitial lung disease, Dr. Dematte lends her expertise in the evaluation and management of pulmonary fibrosis to the Scleroderma Program and the Northwestern Pulmonary Hypertension Program. 

Northwestern Pulmonary Hypertension Program

Dr. Shah is a recognized specialist in echocardiography and diastolic dysfunction, and supports the Northwestern Scleroderma Program with early detection of scleroderma and pulmonary hypertension in patients, and in management of these conditions.
Dr. Cuttica uses advanced methods in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with scleroderma and pulmonary hypertension.


Dr. Hirano brings extensive knowledge of esophageal diseases to the Scleroderma Program, and studies causes and treatments of GERD in patients with scleroderma. He also specializes in swallowing, motility and other esophageal disorders.  


Dr. Laumann is director of the Collagen Vascular Disorders Clinic and has special interest in localized scleroderma (morphea) and Raynaud's disease. 


Dr. Ghossein is an expert in the evaluation and management of chronic kidney diseases and has a special interest in kidney problems in patients with scleroderma.

Please be sure to ask your referring physician's office that the following be faxed or mailed:
  • Summary letters and office notes from your physician
  • Pulmonary function test results (PFTs), if available
  • Echocardiogram results, if available
  • CT scan results, if available
  • Recent laboratory findings
