Quick Scan
Vascular disease is among the leading causes of death in the United States, but many times people have no symptoms of the disease until a catastrophic event occurs, such as an aneurysm rupture or stroke.
The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute provides low-cost screening for vascular disease. Using ultrasound, Quick Scan will detect:
- Carotid artery blockage (increases risk for stroke)
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm (increases risk of rupture (bursting) of the aorta, the main blood vessel of the body which can lead to death)
- Artery blockage in the leg(reduces ability to walk and occasional leg amputation may result; these blockages are a significant predictor for heart disease and/or stroke)
- High blood pressure (increases risk for stroke and heart disease)
The cost of the test may not be covered by insurance.
