Tests
At the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center, we provide comprehensive multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment services for patients with tic disorders. Patients with tics are seen by a fellowship-trained movement disorders neurologist.
Complete health medical and thorough neurologic exams are the best methods to diagnose Tourette's syndrome and other tic disorders. To be diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome both motor and vocal tics must be present for at least a year.
Tests are sometimes used to exclude serious disorders that may produce tics:
- Blood tests
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Computed Tomography (CT)
- Electroencephalogram (EEG)
