The Kovler Organ Transplantation Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital has been providing transplantation services since 1964 and is a leader in research, innovation and patient care in the Midwest region. Our surgeons transplant more than 400 organs each year, making Northwestern Memorial’s program among the top nationally in patient outcomes and the number of transplants performed.

More than 3,500 kidney transplants have been performed at Northwestern Memorial since the program’s inception. In 2011, we performed 263 kidney transplants.
The largest living donor kidney transplant program in the country
Northwestern Memorial was the largest living donor kidney transplant program in the country in 2011, performing 154 living donor kidney transplants.

More than 1,300 liver transplants have been performed at Northwestern Memorial. In 2011, we performed 134 liver transplants, including 21 adult living donor liver transplants, making ours one of the largest living donor programs in the U.S.
Pancreas & Islet Cell Transplantation

In 2011, Northwestern Memorial performed 28 pancreas transplants. We also are a premier center for islet cell transplantation for diabetic patients.

- Transplant outreach satellite clinics
In our effort to provide the best patient experience and convenient locations for kidney and liver transplant evaluation as well as complex liver care, Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation offers five satellite clinics, in Joliet, Oak Brook, Glenview, Moline and Peoria, Illinois and Portage, Indiana.
