Overview

Northwestern Memorial's Trauma and Critical Care Division is an Illinois-designated Level I trauma center that delivers state-of-the-art surgical care to critically ill and injured patients, including:

  • Acute traumatic injuries
  • Complex surgical infections
  • Inpatient critical care of surgical patients
  • Post-operative care

Having a level 1 designation means that the emergency department at Northwestern Memorial has demonstrated that it has trained and capable personnel available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for diagnosing and treating the most critically injured patients with life-threatening injuries. As a level 1 facility, we are capable of providing total care for every aspect of injury, from injury prevention to intensive care to rehabilitation.
