On behalf of Northwestern Memorial Foundation, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Enhancing our lives: The Northwestern Memorial Campaign. The campaign concluded in February of 2008 and was the most successful fundraising effort in Northwestern Memorial Hospital's history.

Support for Enhancing our lives far surpassed our original goal of $150 million and totaled more than $206 million, which helped fund the construction of Prentice Women's Hospital and continues to advance numerous clinical areas including women's health, cancer, cardiovascular health, emergency medicine, neurosciences, orthopaedics and transplantation.

Your partnership matters. It continues a culture of philanthropy that spans 143 years of generous support for Northwestern Memorial and its predecessor institutions. We have so many reasons to look to our future with confidence. Fundraising benchmarks indicate that donors to Northwestern Memorial are among the most loyal in the nation with more than 40 percent of our principal donors providing support for 30 or more years. Moreover, the longevity of our foundation staff is nearly four times the national average. This means that our staff and donors are able to build meaningful relationships over time, which helps our staff ensure that the ongoing philanthropic objectives of our donors are met.

Thank you for a successful fiscal year. In all, we raised more than $29.5 million. This includes an 8 percent increase in planned and estate gift commitments, which will provide critical support in future years to ensure that the best patient care, leading-edge research and exceptional training for the next generation of physicians continue on the medical campus. These encouraging trends reflect growing support not only within our community but also among the hospital's employees and the medical staff who have collectively contributed more than $250,000 this year.

It is heartening to know that in the midst of a difficult economic climate our donors continue to help us advance the mission of the hospital. We have seen the difference that giving at all levels can make and are humbled by the compassion and generosity of our philanthropic community.
