On May 17, 2007, the HOPE board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital will host its fifth annual Egg-Stravaganza, raising funds to support the Women's HIV Program at the hospital.
Originally funded through a five-year grant from the Women's Board, the Women's HIV Program provides comprehensive pregnancy and gynecologic care for HIV-infected women. Since 1996, the program has delivered HIV-free infants to 100 percent of its expectant patients.
Founded in 1999, the HOPE board is named for its mission, which is to provide Help, Optimism, Perseverance, and Encouragement for patients in the program. The board supports the Women's HIV Program by funding a nurse social worker and providing layettes for the newborns.
This year's Egg-Stravaganza event will be held on May 17, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Douglas Dawson ARt Gallery (400 North Morgan Street, Chicago). It will include a reception and an auction of hand-painted ostrich eggs donated by renowned local artists. Guests also will have an opportunity to meet staff members from the Women's HIV Program and learn more about the significant work they do.
Ruth Kinsey, former president of the HOPE board, was drawn to the program as she got to know the medical personnel who provided patient care for women with HIV. "Listening to the people who were involved in providing care for these women convinced me to get involved," she says. "They truly care about each patient as a person."
Tickets to the event are $75. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Northwestern Memorial Foundation's special events hotline at (312) 926-7133.
