Launched in April 2004, the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute is one of the most promising initiatives at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, and its distinguished team of renowned heart and vascular specialists, is organized around six centers providing superior treatment for atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart valve disease, vascular disease and women's cardiovascular health.
The goal is to offer patients, both locally and regionally, access to innovative procedures and treatments rarely available at other hospitals. Our cardiovascular surgeons have developed an innovative treatment for blocked arteries in bypass surgery patients for whom surgery alone will not adequately restore blood flow to the heart. Our vascular surgeons have pioneered new stenting techniques for aortic aneurysms. They are also pursuing NIH-supported research on using growth hormones to promote faster and more effective healing for heart patients.
