In recent years, Northwestern Memorial has emerged as a regional and national leader in transplantation. Surgeons at our Kovler Transplantation Center now perform more than 500 transplants each year, including kidney, pancreas and liver transplants. The center is among a small group pioneering the way in islet and intestinal transplantation. Our kidney transplant program is the fourth largest nationwide for less-invasive laparoscopic kidney donations. Our pancreas transplant program ranks among the top five such programs in the country. As stem cell transplantation becomes a more effective option for treating a range of chronic diseases and disorders, Northwestern Memorial has helped lead the way with more than 100 stem cell transplants performed each year. Our Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Program is among the nation's leading centers for such procedures and a major referral center for patients from across the country.
