Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery

Before Surgery

Visit the Cardiac Surgeon

During an appointment with your cardiac surgeon, your surgery date will be set. The Cardiac Surgery office will assist you with pre-registration for both the doctor's office and the hospital. Be sure to bring your social security number and insurance information.

Visit the Nurse Practitioner
You will be given an appointment to see the nurse practitioner one week before surgery. At your appointment, your medical history will be taken, a physical exam performed and any questions answered. If you are diabetic, medications will be reviewed and instructions will be given.
The nurse will also provide written information for your surgery date, arrival time, and location. Be aware that your surgery date or time may need to be moved due to emergencies. The Cardiac Surgery office will call you if any changes are made. The Cardiac Surgery office can be reached at (312) 695-6984, if you have questions.

Be sure to stop any aspirin-containing products one week before surgery.

After the appointment with the nurse practitioner, you will be sent to Perioperative Assessment Services (PAS) for pre-operative blood work and tests.
