Biographical Sketch:
Susan is the Heart Valve Disease Nurse Clinician for the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She assists in the coordination of care for patients who will undergo surgery for valvular heart disease in the inpatient and outpatient settings. She has worked with cardiac surgery patients in the acute care setting for over 8 years.

After graduating from nursing school, Susan started working in the surgical setting in southern California at the Long Beach VA Medical Center and over the next 12 years served in a variety of roles involving patient care, staff education, and administrative responsibilities.

Susan came to the Chicagoland area in 1998 and worked at the University of Chicago Hospitals in their cardiac surgery operating rooms. Susan came to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in 2000 to accept a position as the Operating Room Surgical Coordinator for the cardiac surgery team. Her role allowed her to work directly, including scrub and circulating, with the cardiac surgeons in the operating room. Susan accepted the position of Heart Valve Disease Nurse Clinician in April 2006. She provides education and clinical support to patients and families and assists with the Cardiac Surgery Outcomes database and enrollment in clinical trials and research.

Susan is a member of the Heart Valve Society of America, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the American Heart Association.
