Mitral Valve Surgery

After Surgery
You will go directly to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after surgery.

Your surgeon will speak with your family to answer any questions they may have. You will have many tubes and wires attached to your body that will:

  • Help you breat
  • Measure blood pressure and oxygen level
  • Empty your stomach
  • Remove blood or fluid that may build up near your incision
  • Monitor your heart rate
  • Drain urine
  • Provide fluid and medicines

As you recover, each of these tubes or wires will be removed.

Recovering from Heart Surgery provides more detailed information about your hospital stay, homecare guidelines, and long-term follow-up care.
