Newborn Care
After pregnancy, parents can benefit from the fact that Northwestern Memorial Hospital pediatricians can provide care for the more than 9,000 infants born at Prentice each year. Pediatric care beyond the neonatal/perinatal period is provided at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where all of Northwestern Memorial's pediatricians also hold staff positions.
Also, Prentice Women's Hospital houses the Renee Schine Crown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a Level III care unit -- the highest designation for the care of premature or seriously ill newborns. The NICU is staffed 24 hours a day by top neonatologists and nurses with access to a full range of subspecialists.
Our outpatient Developmental Evaluation Clinic exists to evaluate and treat infants born at risk for serious illness -- we often provide serial follow-up evaluations through mid-school age.
